The saving against high-street retail is real but modest — expect single-digit to low-double-digit percentages, not the 30%+ you see on fragrance and spirits.
Warranty is the real decision
Apple hardware carries international warranty coverage, but service for a device bought abroad can still mean shipping. If you are buying to save 8%, weigh that against the inconvenience of a claim in another country.
Do not double-dip on tax refunds
Duty free purchases are already tax-free, so they are not eligible for a GST refund on top. If you shop in the city instead, the refund route can occasionally beat the airport price — compare both before you commit.
